People who lose their wealth can usually attribute its disappearance to at least one of these four causes: taxes, poor money management, lawsuits, or divorce. While wealth planners have traditionally focused on the first two by reviewing investment choices and minimizing tax liability exposure, strategies that combat the threats posed by lawsuits and divorce have not enjoyed the same attention – until recently. Today’s high litigation rates, coupled with a divorce rate exceeding 50 percent, have spurred a skyrocketing interest among wealthy individuals in planning to protect assets from these risks.
