Job Function:

Prepares, plans and executes assigned audits in accordance with accepted audit standards, including audits that are more extensive/complex, as well as conducting Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance reviews/activities. This position is responsible for ensuring that established financial, operational and compliance practices, and the related controls, are designed and operating effectively.  This position is responsible for assisting in the creation of appropriate audit programs, execution of the audit programs, directing staffing resources to complete the audit plans as scheduled, generating final audit reports for internal and regulatory agency review, and conducting thorough follow-up audits on previously identified issues.

The Internal Audit function is an independent function, responsible for examining and evaluating business activities and related risk for the purpose of ensuring regulatory compliance, safeguarding company assets, and improving its systems of financial and operational controls. 

 

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts or assists in performing examinations of assigned organizational and functional activities within budgeted time frames and in accordance with departmental standards as stated in the Audit Manual.  Completes the more complex assignments during examinations.
  • Performs audit work, including plan preparation, workpapers, finding, and associated reports that reflect the audit results.
  • Appraises or assists in appraising the adequacy of corrective action taken to improve deficient conditions.
  • Prepares/revises or assists in the preparation/revision of audit programs and related information and makes suggestions to Audit Management regarding applicable changes to banking laws and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with management
  • Keeps abreast of Company policies and procedures, current developments in accounting and auditing professions, and changes in local, state, and federal laws, as applicable.

 

Job Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree, and at least 5-8 years of experience directly related to the job responsibilities.  
  • Preferably, he/she will have achieved a Professional Certification, such as CIA, CPA, CBA, CFSA
  • Sound knowledge in a broad range of internal control concepts regarding the financial, operational and data processing areas of a financial institution. 
  • Understanding of operational and accounting control procedures, methods and philosophies in a banking environment.
  • Knowledge of federal banking laws and regulations. 
  • Knowledge of auditing standards, procedures and related techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Display a strong level of integrity, ethics, analytical skills, and the ability to evaluate data to make informed decisions.
  • Proficient in all MS Office products and automated workpapers.
